MOUNT HOLLY CEMETERY
ca. 1843

Broadway at Twelfth Street

(On the Guided Bus Tour)

Mount Holly is a park-like oasis in the center of the City. Flowering plants, cascading rose climbers over decades old iron fence and shade trees give it a pleasant, restful atmosphere.

The four block area became the primary city cemetery in 1843 and is the "residence" for so many notable Arkansans that it is nicknamed Westminster Abbey of Arkansas. Tour remarks will be made by knowledgeable Mount Holly docents that will include brief histories of such famous "residents" as David O. Dodd, and explanation of such Victorian symbolism as broken monuments for "lives cut short".
