The 46th Annual Quapaw Quarter Spring Tour of Historic Homes May 8 & 9, 2010 The Quapaw Quarter Association’s 46th Annual Spring Tour of Historic Homes will feature five exquisitely beautiful historic homes located in the Governor’s Mansion National Register Historic District of Little Rock. The tour will be held on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, May 8-9, 2010. This year’s tour features a wide range of architectural styles found in the historic neighborhoods of Little Rock – Queen Anne, Dutch Colonial, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, and Vernacular. These grand mansions and cozy bungalows of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in which the wealthy and the working class lived as neighbors, reflect the wonderful diversity of the Quapaw Quarter – both then and now. The Sunday afternoon tour (1-5 p.m.) will include the Fletcher-Heiskell House (ca. 1892/1919) at 1708 Louisiana Street; the Frese Cottage (ca. 1882) at 1614 Louisiana Street; the Turner-Ledbetter House (ca. 1891-92) at 1700 Louisiana Street; the Cochran Cottage (ca. 1937-38) at 317 West 17th Street; and the Turner-Back House (ca. 1884/1917) at 1722 Center Street. All of this year’s tour homes are located within easy walking distance of each other. This year’s event will see the return of an old-time favorite – the Evening Candlelight Gala on Saturday, May 8, from 5:30 – 10:30 p.m. Visitors will enjoy a leisurely stroll along the quiet streets of the neighborhood while touring this year’s featured homes – with champagne and wine served at select locations. Then, guests will gather in the Garth of Historic Trinity Episcopal Cathedral (310 W. 17th Street) for cocktails, followed by an elegant dinner of Arkansas-sourced Southern favorites and dancing for the remainder of the evening. The Quapaw Quarter Association promotes the preservation of Little Rock’s architectural heritage through advocacy, marketing and education. Founded in the early 1960s, the Quapaw Quarter Association is a Local Partner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The annual Spring Tour has been a Quapaw Quarter Association tradition since 1963.
Tickets for the Sunday Afternoon Tour are $12 per person in advance and $15 after May 1. Tickets for the Evening Candlelight Gala are $100 per person. Advance tickets may be purchased at here and at the Little Rock Visitor Information Center at Historic Curran Hall, 615 E. Capitol Avenue. Tickets will also be available on the days of the tour at selected locations along the tour route. Proceeds benefit the historic preservation programs of the QQA.
The QQA wishes to thank this year’s special partners - our Homeowners:
